Aftermath was composed in the spring of 2006 for percussionist Rob Power, and the Sinfonia
string orchestra of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra,
with assistance from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, at the request of Peter Gardner, Artistic Director of the NSO. It was premiered on January 13, 2007, by the above-named forces, and is dedicated to the memory of percussionist/composer John Wyre, who died during the composition of this work. It is intended as a concert work demonstrating the virtuosity and musical sensitivity of both the percussion soloist, whose principal instrument is the vibraphone, and the string orchestra.
